They are fine in the evening but I'm not usually one for white dress shirts for day wear. That's partly because I agree with Hardy Amies, who wrote that they are a bit naff compared to blue or cream, and partly because they seem to wash all the color from my face. But there's one exception, and that's when I have a sun tan.
A tan seems to bring out the best in a white shirt, which is a good thing as white seems to coordinate especially well with the lighter colored suits of summer. Not to mention my favorite summer necktie (pictured), a blue so light that it loses its impact on anything but a white background. Time to order white linen from my shirtmaker.

Scrumptious tie!
It was. I managed to place a couple large blotches of black bean sauce on it today.
And so it goes.
I havve a friend who had several ties cleaned through tiecleaners. He was very pleased with the outcome. Hate to lose a good one...

It's already boxed up for Tiecrafters.
I also have a question about your linen shirts. Is it the weight of the linen that makes them stand up to a tie? Or the lining in the collar and/or placket? I have several RTW casual linen shirts that are far too flimsy to dress up and would really love to have some made up that are suitable for use with taliored clothing.
Thanks for the insight.

Hard to say without seeing your shirts but it's probably a combination of construction and the interlining. Casual shirts are often made with simpler collars than dress shirts.
Finally catching up on older posts...Who makes your linen shirts? Quite impressive...
I use two shirtmakers: Turnbull & Asser and Hemrajani. Hemrajani will make the linen.
