"I very much enjoyed learning about him, his contemporaries and his way of life. I must also confess to a little bit of what might be called method-writing: inspired by D'Orsay's example of scented gloves I have taken to dabbing my watchstraps with Caron's Coup de Fouet and I've even purchased a white buckskin greatcoat, of which I am sure the count would have approved."

I like this whole look all the way down to the socks. I wonder what shoes he's wearing.
Thanks for the steamer info. I am going to look into buying it on Monday.
Have the book. Haven't read it. Might now. Have you?
I found the book a bit slow, and there's not much on D'Orsay's dress.
In the photos I've seen of him, Foulkes goes out of his way to dress noticeably. I usually like the clothes, but his color choices are often at odds with his coloring, leaving him looking washed out.
