Consider wearing a bow tie to cocktails in the early evening. To me, the look is a bit more interesting than a long tie because a bow evokes evening clothes when it's worn with a dark suit.
Blue flannel chalk stripe suit, dark brown cap toe half boots, white on blue striped shirt with white collar and cuffs, lilac and white cotton pocket square and a bow with lilac flowers on a blue ground.

Sharp. And the braces are.....? A purple hue?
After learning how to tie a bow tie for black-tie attire I thought of trying the same with day wear but shied away because informal bow ties invariably seem to be brightly colored & patterned gimmicks best left to eccentrics. However I recently saw a dark bow tie combined with a dark suit and the look was extremely refined. Your photo clinches it - I'm trying it out at my next holiday cocktail party!
I take the photos about a week before they run and don't always recall items that are out of sight. The braces were probably purple or royal blue boxcloth.
Very nice, Will. Normally I am not a fan of bow ties, but this looks excellent. Maybe it is the double-breasted suit...? I am a taller, broader guy, so bow ties do not look good on me.
Proof positive... another man who knew a thing or two about appearing stylish at cocktail hour.

I'll give it a shot this coming week.
Ian Fleming! Yes, of course. He certainly had a few style quirks, didn't he?
In my experience, bow ties look better framed by a small tie space. DB jackets, jackets with waistcoats, or 3B SBs.
Very sharp look. I like bowties but have decided to save them until I get a little older. So until then, I will enjoy them on other people.
Good call. Bow ties should make more of an appearance - they really make a statement, especially about the confidence of the wearer.
I once read a quote about bow ties that went something like: "bow ties never go out of style, because they're never in style."
I have about 40 or so in my collection and like to wear them as often as I can.
