I regret that the attribution I gave to the above photo is incorrect. The photo is actually of Kris Van Assche's collection for Dior Homme and came from the Men's Style website. I got it from a third party. Thank you to the reader who pointed out the error.
Karl Lagerfeld, one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century, is known for absorbing culture around the clock so he can stay ahead of trends. Here, Chanel's artistic director shows that the process may have included channeling Thom Browne.
Of course, the trousers aren't really doppelgängers (a German term for one's evil twin) of Browne's work, because at least one of the models wearing them is reflected in the mirror (in folklore, doppelgängers have no reflections and cast no shadows). And the look is definitely more European than I've seen from Browne. But I'd still get a shiver down my spine if I were to pass these trousers on the street.

I completely miss the Thom Browne fascination. These pants have been around for a very long time in schoolyards around the world. We called them "floods" and they were a point of ridicule. I must agree with you, Will. I dread the day I come across these on the street.
It took me a few seconds to realize that those were in fact real people....creepy. I think anybody who wears trousers like that should be shot on sight. And if they're not wearing socks, hanged, drawn and quartered.
Being very new to the fashion world, I always thought of fashion in this way... that all the big designers did, was make pretty people wear stupid clothing, and tell stupid people it would make them pretty. Sometimes, I'm not wrong.
Very well said, Will. (From Flashman back to Tom Brown, eh?) Looking at Thom Browne-inspired fashion almost makes me spit out my Chardonnay in disgust. Absolutely revolting.
Believe it or not, Thom Browne's Spring 2008 fashion line has even worse items. Who buys this stuff?
