Young men should replace clothes before they outgrow them. Wait too long and they end up looking like the gentleman in the photo from Men's Style, who is wearing a suit that's apparently been in his wardrobe since before he left for college.
He has a good color sense though, doesn't he?

Unfortunately, I believe that's the look he was going for. I blame the whole disaster on Thom Browne. Also, that website is the GQ site, I believe. We could, again, continue our discussion on how far that particular periodical has fallen. You are right, Will, with the color sense, though.
I'm afraid that apart from the shortness of the sleeves, many men today think that the cut of the jacket is quite stylish.
Will, I completely agree with you. However, I don't see what is so wrong with this guy's suit, apart from the narrow collar, and maybe the sleeves are a little short. Personally I'm not a fan of the Ivy 'narrow collar' look, especially for bigger, broader men, but there are some guys who can really pull it off.
I love everything about the look except for the fit. It looks like he bought the suit when he was sixteen. However, I bet Men's Style did not use this photo to demonstrate an ill fitting suit. Just curious?
Turling's right: that is the look he was going for, and yep: blame Thom Browne.
On the other hand, I do like close-fitting suits. Shoulder seems right at the edge of the shoulder, jacket length at the base of the fingers, sleeve length just at the wrist bone, and pant length at the third eyelet of your shoe or a little above. The look should reveal a half inch of collar and cuff, and a half inch of sock when seated in a chair with both feet on the floor.
The look works well on men with slim builds who are normally swallowed up by a suit of OTR proportions.
I guess some can pull off the look. I'd look ridiculous in it. Not tall and thin enough. Or young enough.
In the meantime, the elements are right... maybe he has a younger brother to whom he can pass on the clothes? And tweeds will bag over time...
It seems the button is heavily loaded to take out an eye when it shoots off of the jacket...A gentleman's self defense mechanism perhaps?
If you hate Thom Browne you hate Thom Browne, but bad fit is bad fit. I find I like a lot of shirt showing, but not at the expense of the shoulders and chest.
No, the photo stylist has good color sense, not the model pictured. As for the too-short cuffs, et cetera, I hope this Thom Browne influence fades soon. (Though I have always liked, personally, a healthy amount of cuff to show, a bit more than the usual.)
Once you pass the age of outgrowing your clothes vertically, you, unfortunately, begin to contend with outgrowing your clothes horizontally.
Truthful and funny statement Johnny.
Does anybody happen to know what sort of fabric that is?
personally i like it very much
it is the way i want to wear suits, and i tailor clothing for a living.
on the other hand thw way manton wears his suit is not an example for me whatsoever
im 6 feet and thin i can pull it off easily and i do.
besides the sleeve length that ''might'' be slightly too short the rest is spot on.
unfortunately i can clearly sense a fracture between generations in the way the new generation wears suits:more fashion oriented, faster overall turnaround, aware of quality, ruthlessly value driven, still respectful of tradition, tending to escape it
