San Francisco's Nob Hill has a new club, fittingly called Le Club, at 1250 Jones. It's a comfortable but not very large space: poker lounge, bar, small (36 seat) dining room and a billiard room. The size constraints are probably good as there's no parking. On the other hand, customers can bring their dogs.
The opening brought out some men in suits but a larger group in jeans and open necked shirts. Not a single velvet jacket to add a bit of ton. The concept of evening clothes, any kind of evening clothes, could stand to be re-introduced here. In my opinion, martinis and jeans just don't go together.
Le Club has potential if owners Todd Traina and Gina Milano (above) can inspire the male customers to step it up a couple of notches.

Appears to be a bit nouveau riche, to me. New Money types dominate this sort of thing, in my experience, and there's little we can expect from them in terms of proper dress. Their attitude seems to be: "I've made it so I can do as I please now, the rules don't apply to me, and everyone else can go f*ck themselves." Check out the denim trousers on one of the owners.
Sorry but, without wishing to be snide, am I correct in understanding you just expressed hope that a man wearing a brown belt with black shoes might "inspire the male customers to step it up a couple of notches"?!
"Check out the denim trousers on one of the owners."
Denim trousers? Puh-leeez! It's 2008, not 1808, Laguna.
I do agree that the owner is dressed horribly. Square toe shoes, mismatch belt, and his faux broken in jeans. You think he could be bothered to dress up a bit to launch his own image along with his business venture. But what really makes my stomach churn is the man in the brown pattern shirt with the atrocious necklace and belt.
Laguna I think this is a case of no money as apposed to new money.
Will do you ever wear T shirts under you jackets?
I would argue that Mr Traina should bring up his own apparel a few notches ... sloppy appearance ...
Perhaps they will be inspired by the comments...
Youngin, I will sometimes wear a tee with a summer suit if the occasion is casual.
Will, forgive me for being obtuse, but would you please elaborate on what you're suggesting regading velvet jackets?
A velvet jacket is a good evening club look with jeans (I wouldn't), gray flannels or semi-formal trousers. Even with jeans, it would represent a considerable step up at Le Club.
And I would ask why are those women keeping their fur coats on inside?
They are called coats for a reason; and I should imagine any worthwhile club would have a coat-check.
I walked by this place a few days ago as I live only a few blocks away. I think it is nice that they allow dogs. Other than that, as a native I can't help but feel that this particular "socialite" generation is nothing but bad news for San Francisco.
One should lead by example. The owners set the tone for the place.
