Once dressed, a man is supposed to be nonchalant about his clothes, looking as if he pays them no attention. But there's one exception to that rule, and that's the pocket square which, if not fussed with periodically, has a disturbing tendency to balloon to indiscreet proportions.
Even princes are not immune.

The Exception to the Rule

I plead guilty to fussing with my pocket squares. Though it’s not something I realize I’m doing until I catch myself at it. I think I do it as much because I enjoy the feel of fabric as anything. Over many years of trial and error, I’ve learned to minimize my silk pocket square eruptions. I customarily leave one corner of the square raised slightly in the outside corner of the pocket in addition to the puff. Don’t know why it works, but it seems to help.
I can understand that many would find that too studied, but I’m a largish fellow and it seems to work well to my eye on me.
Charles is properly nonchalant here. Any man with a perfectly tied tie AND a perfectly proportioned pocket square is simply NOT a gentlemen.
This is a very common look at Westminster and in the City, IMO. I can recall many gents with ballooning, drooping pocket squares. I doubt very many chaps worry about it.
I doubt if it the look in the picture is an accident. The prince is often, I'd even say usually, seen with a bulging pochette. So this look may be deliberate and personal.
I frequently find myself making two adjustments during the course of the day - (1) fixing my handkerchief (I wear white linen in a tv fold so mine generally falls down out of sight)and (2) retucking my shirt that tends to blouse over my belt.
John - The last shirt order I placed with my maker, I admitted that I was a retucker during the day. He added length the shirt body. So much so that at first I thought he went off the deep end and delivered me night gowns for my girlfriend. After he convinced me to give them a try for a bit, I have noticed it has helped.
The type of fold has alot to do with the poofing of the ps. Also I think that the suit material and the depth of the pocket plays a big role.
It's a slippery slope - you don't want to end up looking like Daniel Day-Lewis in A Room With A View.
