Linen and Gin

Watching the film A Good Woman the other day reminded me that I like the summer look of a tan jacket and white shirt accompanied by a necktie with a black ground. So here's a version suitable for whiling away an hour at a bar with a couple of friends.

The jacket and shirt are linen, and the necktie's white dots work with the shirt to reduce the intensity of the black. During the week this is a good combination with tan suits and tan shoes and it's equally effective during off hours with cream trousers, which was how I wore it.

Away from the office, try mixing the clothes with a gin cocktail as a change of pace from gin martinis. That's two shots of gin and two dashes of bitters stirred with ice and strained into a cocktail glass with a twist of lemon peel. For me, the Occidental Cigar Club might be just the place for one this evening.

Linen and gin: two of my favourite things. Pure summer.

Excellent pairing. Although my summer taste tends toward the Gimlet.

Make that two Negronis.

Campari is my summer drink.

With soda, as an Americano, or Negroni, it is perfect even the color is refreshing.

Cheers,

Carl

Will,
have You ever tried matching Your tan linen suit/jacket with a blue/azure shirt and a navy tie with white polka dots?. I am sure that the final outlook (also using a white polka dots black tie)will be better than with a white shirt. In Italy elegant people follow an old adagio: "never use a white shirt before the sunset".

Angelo, I agree re white shirts except during summer when they look good next to tanned skin. And I have indeed worn tan jackets with blue shirts. A navy necktie with light blue dots blends well with that combination.

Will, thanks for the linen shirt. I really don't know why, but a linen shirt can make or break a summer wardrobe. Light azure, white, beige, light olive, salmon or pink..all in the softest of hues...and summer is yours...

but sometimes i prefer a vodka tonic to a gin tonic...depends on the quality of the gin, vodka and/or linen...

I paired a lavender shirt with a tan jacket and white trousers to a wedding at the weekend. Kept getting complimented on it, too.

How appropriate! I'm wearing white and drinking and gin and tonic as I read this post.. now if I could only convince Korean groceries to start selling limes...

Nice looking combination Will. Thanks for the photo.Alan Flusser featured a tan suit for this summer with a blue shirt and solid yellow tie. Paul Stuart featured a tan suit with a blue bengal stripe shirt and blue knit tie with white polka dots.

When I got home last night, I poured myself the aforementioned gin cocktail while I prepared dinner. It was a delightful change from the usual martinis and Vespers that have basically lead me to be bored with gin.

A good look Will! After seeing "The Year of Living Dangerously" the summer it came out, I spent most of that one wearing a khaki cotton suit, white shirt and black tie... a classic combination. I really like the idea of pairing the cream trousers, though.
