I've been thinking about black suede oxfords for about a year, and this photo of Cary Grant is going to force me to test drive a pair.
Oh, I know I've been back and forth on the idea. Suede absorbs rather than reflects light, which means it's not the best shoe for evening and that's when I wear black shoes the most often. And I don't really need another pair of black shoes for day wear, considering that black's at best a once a week proposition with gray suits.
But then there's Cary Grant. And Ian Fleming. And the fact that I never see a pair on anyone else.
'Nuff said.

Black Suede Shoes

I totally agree. That would be a sharp, elegant look. The problem is where and who (of high quality that is) carries black suede shoes. I do not think I have ever seen them.
I have a pair but as we are half a planet apart you will not have seen them. Black suede shoes do need to be brushed often and not worn in dusty places. However they do look smart especially in the evening.
I had a beautiful pair of Gravati Black suede 3 eyelet split toe derbys. I only wore them at most half a dozen times over ten years. I recently gifted them as I didn't like the way they looked with any of my trousers. I tried them with Gray flannel, gray worsted, black slacks and the best combo was actually with jeans. I am sticking to chocolate and ginger suedes.
Indeed, beautiful, but with those shoes on, I have the impression he is waiting till the rain is over.

Not your normal bespoke, but also far from bespoke prices should you care to consider experimenting.
That is - by far - one of my most favorite picture of any celebrity. The style is impeccible.
A lot of Argentinian tango dancers love to wear black suede shoes, both men and women. I myself have one brogue pair, and one black suede/black calf spectator for dancing.
What another beautiful picture from this site!
black suede shoes are awesome with the right outfit. i am online looking for some 3 lace dressy bss. i never worry about how someone else looks in a picture, how i look is important when i step out in a cashmere/silk/wool jacket, smooth shirt and slacks.
Hello Will,
I have a pair of saddle-bit black suede loafers. Paired with a lighter-than-mid-grey pair of worsted slacks, a white shirt, red/black/white neckerchief and a black silk sweater I think they work nicely. I think the key is the colour grey against which they are played.
Why do you think his shoes are black? Maybe it's a dark brown.
