Whenever I see a photo of the very stylish Diego Della Valle, the founder of Tod's shoes, he's wearing a blue suit, a blue shirt, a white linen pocket square and a simple necktie (clicking on the photo will enlarge him considerably). I never tire of the look, which is enhanced here by the suit's windowpane overcheck.
Proof that a man whose coloring is compatible needs nothing more in his closet than a selection of blue suits and appropriate accessories.

Will,
Yes I agree. I have recently watched and re-watched many times Alfred Hitchcock's Rope and Dial M for Murder. The stylish actors wore simple suits, simple ties, white shirts and linen handkerchiefs, and I have yet to tire of looking at them. It helps that the fit is just about perfect too.
I think it was Cary Grant's final interview in GQ in the 80's in which he noticed Aristotle Onassis and someone else's look and said something like "those characters always wore blue suits..."
I'd love to only wear blue suits, but do you reckon blue would be appropriate at a dressy wedding (yes, I've seen the 40's AA figurine of the bride's father in a blue DB suit, but I worry that might be unacceptable here in old Europe), let alone at a funeral? If not, could one get away with a blueish gray in those occasions?
Enzo, a dark blue would be perfectly acceptable at a funeral. You might need semi-formal day or evening wear for a wedding but if a suit is the correct level of formality then a blue one will be fine.
If I recall correctly, George Frazier always, or almost always, wore a navy suit; when he was asked why, he said, "Every day is important."
What shoes (style and colour) would you think Mr Della Valle is wearing with this very elegant combination?
