Spotted Knit Neckties

There was a discussion recently on Style Forum about groupthink among we gentlemen of the interweb and spotted knit neckties are certainly an example of my own participation in herd behavior.

I'd worn maroon, black and navy knit solids for years, but after seeing a couple of posts of men wearing the dotted versions I jumped in the pool. I'm almost ashamed to admit that now I have three, with the two latest pictured here. The white one is for wear with a navy summer mohair suit, and the brown for tweed jackets (I've a pair of brown cotton socks with small pink dots to match).

Knit ties are ideal for travel as they are more resistant to rude treatment than conventional silks. The dotted versions are simply conventional knits that have had dots hand sewn across the surface in a contrasting color. And, at least until recently, a man was far less likely to see a dotted knit coming down the sidewalk at him.

Now of course they're popular and I should probably place mine in storage for a couple of years.

Will,

Paul Stuart has been displaying them in their windows for the past few seasons and they have been selling well I hear. I bought a navy with white dots that I am saving for the Spring.

I do not normally wear knitted neckties (at least since high school); however, I like these quite a bit. As John said, maybe for the spring.

Group think, I think not! Just gents with similar tastes enjoying a handsome option. Now if you were to appear adorned regularly from head to toe in black, gray and beige, that might be worrisome!

No, I don't think this is group think. Just the consensus of the forum and really just a matter of taste.
However, when I frequented StyleForum, group think regularly emerged concerning which brands of shoes/shirts/suits where "generally regarded the best made" and which brands "had declined since they now days do X instead of Y". To pick an example, Church shoes were only thought to be the ghosts of their former glory since they had begun using surface treated leather (bookbinder) instead of the traditional type. Never mind that they only offer this leather as an easy-care option on select shoes. No - obviously the throne belonged now to Edward Green, and I suspect Ganciano &co who had the sense to market themselves in the forums.

I got a great one from sw1. light grey with pink polka dots. fyi- be sure not to get the really skinny knit ties.

No dots for me. No square-end knits either, just the pointed variety.

Personally, I like the horizontal striped knits.

Dots on knit ties?
A very odd combination indeed.

I'm not a big fan of the dots, but the knit tie is pretty nice. Also, I agree with how they are easy to travel with.
