Artic air brought freezing overnight temperatures to the Bay area this week, and heavy cloth is the appropriate response. Away from the office, an 18 ounce gunclub tweed jacket combined with a tan nailhead tab collared shirt, blue madder necktie and navy silk pocket square. Below the waist are 17 ounce dark brown flannel trousers, brown and tan argyle socks and brown slip-on casuals.
It's a combination that's too warm for sustained wear indoors but just right for running around outside in temperatures under 55°F (12°C).

I'm flying to San Francisco tomorrow night. "Arctic" and "freezing" were not the two words I was hoping to hear. It looks like I'll be putting the liner back into my trench. I do like that coat, though. I had one similar until a recent loss of about 40 pounds saw it end up at the Salvation Army. Maybe I'll find something similar in the City.

Fantastic jacket and great combination. I would have liked to see the trousers. I am very fond of dark brown (chocolate) flannels and as a change of pace.

Is this one of those occasions which necessitates a vest beneath the jacket to remain comfortable yet presentable for longer durations indoors, or does a gentleman stay dressed and simply excuse himself for an occasional cool-down on the front porch? I suppose that a pipe or a cigar would be a good justification to go and air oneself out, seeing as how perspiring under such an outfit might become unseemly.
I wouldn't wear cloth that heavy to spend a day indoors.
What's a madder tie? Is it a paisley?
Madder is a silk process that gives it a unique look that's somewhat similar to suede.
the jacket is a bit too tight...button is pulling...do like the combination though
