Wool tartan necktie worn with a gray chalk stripe on navy flannel suit, linen pocket square and blue broadcloth shirt. The cloth used in the necktie is very fine, with most of the qualities of silk including some lustre.
A tartan necktie is perhaps more interesting next to a conservative suit than a tweed jacket, by far its more common application. In the United States, it is another of those looks that are both unexpected and familiar at the same time.

A Tartan Necktie

Looks great, Will. There's long been a place for tartan alongside eveningwear, and it looks ever the more innovative in the daytime context you provide.
Will,
That's a great look. Very strong and powerful. Also, unexpected. I always just assume match tartan with tweed/herringbone. Well done.
I recently got a black watch plaid in silk that I like and have been wearing. More conservative than the one in the photo. I found those red tartans like royal stewart are difficult to pull off, for me anyway. I was thinking of getting a wool tartan this weekend for my upcoming holiday parties.
Goodness, that's a beautiful suit Will. I don't know about the rest though. I find a tartan tie with such a suit rather jarring. I would pair tartan with tweed. But, perhaps the virtue of the tartan/flannel chalk stripe combination is in its distinctiveness.
