After a week of delay, the Gaziano & Girling shoe shipment was released from Purgatory. In it, a pair of Bordeaux colored monkstraps, pictured here after three coats of oxblood polish by my friends at A Shine & Co.
The monks complete this past year's indulgence in maroon shoes to wear with blue suits. The socks are Marcoliani Circos in gray and lilac. They don't match my trousers but they do complement the gray and purple cashmere necktie.

Great shoes! And all very complimentary to your Eden in Paris fabric.
Very nice shoes Will. What last did you get? I am thinking of a monk with a wingtip toe w/o a medallion. What do you think about wearing that type of monk w/a suit. Less Formal than a plain toe?
Will-
That's a great pair of shoes. I especially like the color.
One question, could you explain the three coats, especially after just getting them?
Thanks!
Willow, polish on calf adds protection against abrasions and scrathes as well as shine. And, unless the shoes are cordovan, the more the merrier.
Tony, the last is the MH71. And yes, brogueing decreases formality but I have a pair of wing tip elastic sided slip-ons that I wear with suits.
And Tim, that cloth is the triple overcheck. The Eden in Paris is at the mill even as we write.
You say that you ordered your shoes in bordeaux calf and then applied oxblood polish. In a previous post, when you were waiting for the shoes, you had also mentionned oxblood color. Does GG make shoes in oxblood or do you have to 'get' that color with polish? Do you use an oxblood color polish or is a combination of polish colors used to obtain this color?
Pol, oxblood is a darker red than Bordeaux. G&G offers the darker color in cordovan but not in calf, so I darken the calf over time with a combination of oxblood and black polish (usually two coats of oxblood over one of black). That also antiques them nicely.
Now you've done it. Just when I thought I had my monk situation decided. Beautiful. John Lobb Vale, G&G like your pair, or Corthay Arca w/buckle. I would most often wear them with an odd jacket. What is a man to do?
