The end of March is as good a time as any to begin thinking about warm weather in the Northen Hemisphere, and it was fun poking around the storage closet this weekend for things to pack for a trip where the temperature is expected to be above 80 degrees F (27 degrees C).
One warm weather wardrobe staple is the unlined safari jacket in cream linen (the one in the photo was made by Hemrajani Brothers). Without the structure of lining and canvas, linen as heavy as 14 ounces wears cool in combination with tees, polos or lightweight dress shirts. And a safari blends well with the scenery in tropical areas where the only conventional jacket anyone recalls was worn by HRH Prince Charles or one of his relations when they last visited.
Cream jackets and a suntan are complemented by shirts of blue, yellow or white worn with a cotton scarf, or dressed up with an ascot. Just add a straw hat; linen, fresco or cotton trousers; and unlined slip-on shoes.

Thinking About Sunshine

Good looking Safari Will. The blue dress shirt I have in mind would be the sheerer of two choices, and the cooler voile over the other serviceable possibility, batiste. And the color? The very deepest blue the sky ever becomes where one is traveling, or more prosaically, French blue.
I like your idea for a polo but not a tee, as I probably would forgo the jacket were I feeling a tee appropriate, but of course, there go pockets altogether, so I guess a tee really isn't much use in the tropics to the gentleman if he is not to laden his trousers with the bulk of his traveling kit.
I guess the question of neckwear must not be avoided and I have a very dark navy blue with white pin dot cotton oblong scarf that I would use as a kind of bandana, for dinner.
I would like brand new navy blue espadrilles with that as well, but I am certain they are not de rigeur for a gentleman after sunset.
Many thanks again for your refreshing post. The quality of that linen looks superb.
A tee is OK IMO when it is covered by a scarf. Other than that, I agree that shirt or polo are the better options.
Espadrilles though are usually considered beach shoes.
Does anyone have good / bad experiences of mytailor.com that they want to relate? I was thinking about ordering some summer trousers from there.
I have a safari but it looks like a Fred C.Dobbs one.Rough and ready.
Having worn a safari jacket on safari, my opinion is that the first thing one should do with the belt is throw it away. However, the general idea is good. I think, should I ever have occasion to head into tropical climes again, that I will have Hemranjami do up something like what you show but with a half belt. It would be less fussy, IMO.
