The photo shows a tried and true combination of a navy suit, red on white striped shirt and a silver necktie.
Paired with navy suits, silver neckties are as close to an automatically successful pairing as one is going to find. In my opinion, most wardrobes should include a silver herringbone like the tie in the photo, and a silver grenadine. The sheen of the herringbone sets off worsted suits and the texture of the grenadine complements flannels.

I was wondering how old were you when you first started amassing your collection?
Tommy, I began having clothing made for me at 17 or 18. Few of those things are still in my wardrobe but I do have some Sulka neckties from those days.
I think that the shirt is quite a nice combination with the blue jacket, but, in my modest opinion of course, a silver tie like yours wants a white shirt.
I rather go for a tudor red tie, white poket hankerchief with matching red handmade borders.
What do you think about that?

This is quite an old post, but great advice. I have been having trouble finding a quality silver herringbone tie since I first read this. Closest I have found is a drake's silver repp. Any plans to stock a silver herringbone in the store?
