105 in the Shade

It was 105 F (40 C) in Napa Valley yesterday, but there was a breeze and it was pleasant under the trees in linen and fresco. The photo was taken after lunch and the linen has had time to achieve a properly rumpled state.

I wore an old necktie from San Francisco's Cable Car Clothiers that has survived nearly as long as my marriage. It looks remarkably ordinary and was not a particularly well made piece even when new, but I have never seen its combination of dot size and spacing when I have been in a buying mood. So we continue on together.

Light gray Brisa trousers and a jacket from Holland & Sherry's 14 ounce linen are worn with a linen cap and shirt, Edward Green spectator slip-ons and the aforementioned necktie.

That is the way every gentleman should dress in the summer!

The wrinkles on that coat add a lot of nonchalance to the entire ensemble. Is your coat unlined? Great look!

If your comment is missing this morning I apologize. I inadvertantly deleted a batch of them.

Very nice Will. I have worn an almost identical outfit at times during the summer. Were You wine tasting in that heat? I hope you were having some chilled whites!

Will, I noticed there are no pocket flaps on the jacket. Is this normal on a certain style of jacket?

Champagne Tony, and it was cold.

What a beautiful linen. What a color! That's how to do it, Will.

Wow--wearing a jacket & tie in 105° weather! I am truly impressed. I guess it's fairly dry in Napa Valley; I can't imagine wearing that much someplace that's humid.

Very nice outfit, as always. I love the burnish on the shoes.

jcard21, those pockets are patch, and generally do not carry flaps.

Flapped pockets on city suits are another discussion entirely.

You don't even succumb to the temptation to dress down in 105-degree weather? Will, you've just become one of my heroes. What a more beautiful world this would be if more men (including me) braved the heat with such style!

Perfect in every way.

"Brisas trousers"? Is that a style or a fabric or a maker? Google is less than helpful on this point.

Will said...

Brisas is an open weave cloth of 11 ounce lambswool, made for the London Lounge Cloth Club.

this look is epic to me, one of the many reasons I read your blog

Impeccable. You put Napa, an often slovenly dressed valley, on the map of style.

You tend to have your trousers cut rather wide.

It's not a look that is common from the Row, not unheard of but does age a man or mark him out somewhat of a tourist.

Still, bespoke is there for choices to be made; enjoy yours!

Very funny, Mr. Brown.

All three of my tailors, two of them on the Row and a third who trained there, provide 9 1/4" wide trousers at the bottom by default.

Will, this is a great look that I have adopted just this summer. You look great with those shoes. And 40C is 105 F! Jeez, I've totally forgotten Fahrenheit. I crack at 38C, way to go

Is the jacket part of a complete suit?

Will said...

It's just a jacket. My linen suits are mustard and french blue.
