It is true that I have been overdoing the sock focus this past week or so, but then I have found happiness in a couple of new styles. The Marcoliani cotton argyles in the photo, for example, are much better quality than other lightweight argyles I have tried in the past. Indeed, they are better quality than the Marcoliani merino argyles, which have a disturbing tendency to come unwoven at the boundaries between colors.
Argyles of course are patterns reminiscent of Scottish tartans that are worn casually. Perfect with odd jackets, most men do not consider them appropriate with suits.
These are worn with tan gabardine trousers. a shirt jacket and an old pair of slip-ons that C&J made for Brooks Brothers about twenty years ago.

Cotton Argyles

I agree with you Will. The cotton Marcoliani are much nicer than the wool. I bought 6 pair 3 and 3 earlier this year. After washing the cotton hold up much better.
Very nice combination. I love argyle socks, but rarely wear them to work (only my wool ones when it gets cold), and, as you noted, never with a suit.
That's a very nice and visually-interesting casual shoe. I've never seen the combination of split toe, penny loafer, and kiltie before; in fact, I've never seen a kiltie without tassels before. Do I need to get out more often?
My favorite pair of socks is actually a pair of sky blue monochrome argyles that I wear with my blue seersucker suit---when you're from the South (U.S.), that's office wear come summertime.
This sent me rummaging thru the old sock drawer and lo and behold, a pair of argyles! An added bonus - the single red sock, cut down to the heel, serves as a fine pocket camera cover.
Thanks Will !
One of my favorite pairs of socks are argyles made of linen. If you know where to get those, pls post the info.
