A man needs a bit of silk to close his shirt collar. With the passing of time, the negative associations that certain television sitcoms may have given the ascot in the United States have also passed on. That has removed one of the principal objections to neckwear that is other than the conventional four in hand. Indeed, I find that many Americans have never seen an ascot before, and approve of the sight. It makes for a more finished look, one that is very suitable for summer days and rosé d'Anjou.

Wear Silk at the Neck

I'm not sure what sitcom you are referring to.
Be that as it may, I agree with the principle, although linen or cotton hanks are also worth consideration.
(And a good option for those who worried of a whimsical charge).
Linen was good for B.B. however silk does have a special drape.
Great color blue! Who did you have make the shirt or was it RTW?
i agree but you are not wearing it correctly, you're suppose to tie it. make a knot. otherwise it falls of your neck and it desappears. but again one can wear one's clothes anyway that is desired.
i think when you have a big piece of silk, like a Hermes neckerchief. you can just tie it simple. but for a smaller bandanna you have to make a knot.
That particular silk is an ascot and it's tied as an ascot should be.
The blue linen shirts were made by Hemrajani. I have several as it's the color linen that I prefer and I always have one ready to wear.
Another nice combination--but do we expect anything less? :-)
I, too, have taken the plunge into ascots (found mine at a thrift store, if you can believe it). I was hesitant at first, so wore them around the home to start with; later, around the neighborhood. Now I can wear them unselfconsciously anywhere.
Please keep praising the ascot. With luck, your efforts will help revive this classic, classy look.
P.S. to Mr. Brown: If you don't know, consider yourself lucky.
I fully agree with you, my dear chap.
We need top reclaim the cravat /ascot. It's extraordinary how one can 'lift' a look - I particularly excourage the wearing of an ascot with a polo shirt.
i'm not an expert but the ascot cannot be knotted, it's pinned. it's also lined, i thought it was worn at races. not on a hot summer.
bandannas are worn on summer, well you can put anything around your neck.
Santy, you are thinking of the formal ascot. The day cravat version I was wearing is indeed tied.
Look it up in Wikipedia. :-)
