The global decline of small things that are time consuming to produce has meant the near disappearance of many a small pleasure of years past, and socks with embroidered clocks are not the least of these.
The rarity of socks with embroidered decoration makes little sense to me, as the designs I have seen appear machine-stitched and unlikely to add a significant amount of cost, especially when compared to the stratospheric prices commanded by Sea Island cotton, silk and cashmere blended hose in the first place.
Sadly, I never thought to check the maker on the pair or two remaining in my sock drawer and, rather like the practice of embroidery, the names are no longer visible.

Socks with Clocks

Socks with clocks are one of my sartorial favorites. I too cherish the few remaining pair I have in fine Merino and lisle purchased now over 20 years ago at the fine NYC haberdasher, Tripler. No doubt, some designer will “invent” them in the not too distant future.
As I have a family background in embroidery, I can't imagine it to be too expensive to find some (Chinese?) manufacterer who could add clocks on socks, if you give them the socks and a design. The costs should not be more than 2-4$ inclusive postage. We worked with some very good hand embroiders in Afghanistan a few years back, but that alley is now, alas, closed due to the war.
Wouldn't that be a nice extra in your shop? The only place to get clocks on socks?
Very nice, Will. Great combination of suede shoes, gray trousers, and bordeaux socks.
Hi Will,
What's your opinion on suede shoes combined with a suit as work wear? Is it formal or casual? I'm employed at a bank and not sure whether or not I should wear that combo for work.
Best regards
AFJ
AFJ,
If it weren't friday, I'd send you straight home to change if you came into my bank wearing suede shoes...that is, after I compliment you on your fine taste...
Seriously, probably not a good idea in a banking environment unless you are in a high level. Can work in other financial environments like PE, or marketing, or legal, but not a bank.
Will: OTC Socks with Clocks made for us by Bresciani will be available in 5 colors beginning in late August (2010).
You can see our prototype designs on
this page.
Best regards,
Alexander Kabbaz
Will, are the any prospects to have those socks featured on the ASW Store?
Best,
Luis
I will have socks with clocks and other classic patterns beginning sometime in October.
