The coming weeks are when the clothes of spring are slowly packed away, to be replaced by more robust stuff. The first things to go into storage are the lighter colors, for early Fall is the time to wear mid-weight worsteds, and light-weight tweeds and corduroy.
Straw hats are gone, replaced by felt, and what had been the spectators' space on the shelf is filled with boots. Linen suits and trousers are cleaned and hung in their bags.
It's time for darker colors.

In watching old movies such as the Thin Man series everybody including the average joe is wearing a suit . I know it's Hollywood but it had to be reflective of the society at that time . The question is how much was a " good" basic suit or a " better "one at that time ?
Hello Will,
As always, your good guidance is appreciated. I notice that you mention that fall is a time to put away the straw hats of summer, to be replaced by a more robust felt.
The men in the esquire illustrations wear a variety of chapeaus and I have noticed one or two pictures where you have what I would describe as a tweed cap.
Can you offer some guidance on hats? Details and commentary on styles, materials, suitable venues, social graces are all of interest.

As you say will; all about colours at the moment.
The usual mistake folk make is to assume this also means time for winter cloth.
It's Autumn; chillier morning and evenings but still retaining mild days.
I've seen plenty jump straight in thick layers and by 11am it's not a pretty sight.
