There are at least two great necktie providers in Naples. One of them of course is Marinella, the tiny store with the mythic reputation. The other, less well known but perhaps better value, is E & G Cappelli of Via Cavallerizza a Chiaia.
More than one friend with whom I've discussed the ASW web store (yes, the same one that never seems to open even as the goods pile up in the stockroom) has suggested that a selection of Sr. Cappelli's printed silk, cashmere and wool neckties might be a worth while complement to Michael Drake's three folds and the lined six fold woven silks that continue to arrive from another UK tiemaker. And so began the dance, which has progressed to swatches and samples.
Cappelli is a smaller operation than the other two makers, but no slouch when it comes to quality. The ties he dispatched are beautifully made, and they drape perfectly. Thanks presumeably to my inadequate command of the Italian language, instead of the requested six folds the samples appear to have twelve (six on each side and most of them are visible in the photo), which means each tie contains an enormous amount of silk.
It would be nice if the extra folds were some form of blessed event, but they do increase the price of a tie considerably. My closet now contains two twelve fold neckties, and they are likely to remain the only examples of that construction.

Now that's a spicy meatball!
Will--if you get some Capelli's, I don't know if I will ever shop at another place than your store! Also, can you order directly from them? I am afraid I will not be getting a chance to go to Naples for quite some time...
Beautiful neckwear Will. Seems my latest tie addiction is Charvet, for which I can not reach my fill given their enormous collection. I'll have to try EG Cappelli one day soon.
Cappelli is great. Have you considered Ulturale, or are their designs too 'out there' for your tastes? They used to have a nice line made with vintage suitings and jacketings a few years ago.
Ultrale ties are wonderful. The showroom is also in Naples and the 3,7-10 collection is as good as the ones mentioned here. I would give them a chance for sure.
Here you have the website in case you want to have a look

Cappelli made the ties for me and my groomsmen for my wedding - a gift from one of them who is Napolitano. They now make most of my ties, which I get ferried in via said friend.
They are singularly beautiful and, for me, are superior to Marinella ties as they are more truly of the Italian style - rather than an Italian take on the English style.
Due to the construction, however, I highly recommend that you choose lighter-weight silks for your ties - otherwise, they can get pretty bulky and they find it difficult to hold a decent shape of knot.
The true joy is in going to their showroom and workshop, however - well worth the trip!
Dear Will,
Your latest posts have enticed our appetite for the long-awaited ASW Shop. Please, quench our thirst and confide us when the opening will be.
All the best and cheers for the great inspiration you bless us everyday.
