Limiting the day's clothing to one pattern can be a bit boring, but in the photo a young James Stewart manages quite successfully despite his empty jacket pocket.
Keeping things interesting are his yellow sweater, which has a textured weave to complement its color, and a navy necktie that contrasts with the pale blue shirt.
One pattern need not be dull.

Wearing One Pattern

Beautiful photo, Will. Thank you. No fusing in that jacket. But to quibble a quibble, might some consider the sweater’s ribs a pattern? I’d need to take it into account, as I think it might look rather poor with some jacket patterns. And, could that tie possibly be black?
Very nice jacket. I think it is a gray and white pattern but my monitor almost shows a yellowish green weave running through it. The tie looks blue to me. Very nice photo of the late jimmy Stewart.
Will,
I meant to ask this when you had the 4x1 suit posting a couple of days ago, but I was busy that day. Have you ever seen any 6x3 suits in the last 40 years? They were, for a short time, popular in the late 60's and the Peacock Revolution, but they disapppeared and have never made a return, except in military and other uniforms such as some railroad conductors. Maybe the high closure, showing very little shirt and tie is what made them unpopular or maybe they were uncomfortable to wear. Do you know why we've never seen any?
I think the jacket, which is indeed beautiful, has a distinct heather green highlight, not quite an overplaid, and perhaps the tie is a marl, rarely seen today, which is a combination of a deep bottle green and navy blue.
That would obviate the need for an explanation of the choice of the yellow v-neck and cream flannels, right?
Such a nice combination!
Always avoid ellow and most greens.Unless you are very dark.A no no for grey saxon heads
