The Purple Necktie

Boisterous though the color may be in lighter shades, the deep purple necktie is one of the more useful that a man can own. Its most common pairing is with navy jackets but purple is an effective change of pace whenever a man might consider wearing a navy necktie and it always complements a light blue shirt.

It is of course a basic principle that contrasting colors usually get along more effectively than matching ones because they set each other off. More successful pairings tend to be colors that reside next to each other on a color wheel, which is the key to the combination of purple and navy.

Not to mention that it provides a man with a reason to wear his purple socks.

Kismet! I just acquired a lovely aubergine grenadine tie on Friday. I thought it would go very nicely with my navy blazer at an upcoming evening with friends and family. I also bought a knit silk yellow and black horizontal stripe tie (big stripes of yellow, thin of black). It looks like it would go well with casual sweaters, what else might you recommend it be paired with?

Honestly Will that's a very nice tie but it never would have dawned on me to put it with a navy blazer. There you go.

Charlie Rose sure works purple great on every shade of gray and frequently, as I try to do. Purple is is good with olive too. As are martinis.

Hello again Will (all's been rather busy over Brown Mansions).

Purple & navy not only sit along side one another, but occasionally on each others lap (...they can merge (for those not following)).

A fine colour, in papal shades splendid even, assuming your have the presumption to assume it.

That's beautiful tie!

Can you please let us know where you got this tie from?

Michiel, the tie was made for ASW by E&G Cappelli of Naples.

I really need a purple tie. Pink ties are also a great option, and they're my next favorite after black.
