Immediate Shoe Gratification

Some of the world's finest ready to wear shoes are tucked away in London's Royal Arcade. Constructed on on standard lasts to near bespoke quality, George Cleverley's Anthony Cleverley line is a hard to find offering of the very best English shoes without the usual five or six month wait.

Though Anthony Cleverley models can be made to order in a variety of colors and skins, new ready to wear offerings for 2010 include a version of the Forte casual (in the photos) in a brown pebble grain, a tassel casual in brown buckskin, and an elastic sided slipon in dark brown calf.

Current pricing for the range is 950 GBP or approximately $1,295 ex VAT inclusive of lasted shoe trees. And they are available for immediate gratification.

Will, I had ordered a pair of the AC MTO shoes last spring from George Glascow when he was in LA last year. They are some of the most beautiful and elegant shoes I own next to my bespoke Cleverlys. The only problem with the shoe you show which is the same last as mine but slightly different detailing, is the last is quite narrow. It needs alot of breaking in. I would recommend them for casual wear but not for alot of walking unless you have a narrow foot.

Good tip on immediate gratification and Tonyp's experience that the last tends toward the narrow. Crocket & Jones promises immediate gratification as well, but I have no experience with them and wonder if they are well received (They certainly sell for less).

Are the AC shoes on the 337 last? I understand that at least some of the regular Cleverley RTW is made by C&J on that last.

I found a Bespoke maker in Italy who does the same thing as anyone in London for 250 pounds. His stuff is out standing. He'll do anything you want

Huzir, the Anthony Cleverley models are made in Cleverley's workroom on Cleverley lasts and to a standard that is considerably stricter than C&Js.

JC, C&J does a nice job of making attractive traditional shoes at reasonable prices. The lasts are less elegant as the shoes must fit a variety of feet and machine-made shoes generally cannot have waists as neat as hand-made or hand-finished shoes.
