The film "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps" was originally supposed to be released in April but has now been moved back to October. And that undoubtedly means that the return of the double breasted vest, worn by Michael Douglas with his single breasted suits, will also be delayed.
Douglas' clothing in the original "Wall Street" created ready to wear demand for suits with braced trousers as well as shirts with white collars and cuffs. It seems only logical that suit manufacturers will be eyeing his new wardobe for style ideas and those vests are by far the obvious choice.
The problem of course is that if a vest is the trickest element in a suit to fit, a double breasted vest has that challenge in spades. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I absolutely love them although I only have a couple...About 20 years ago Brit TV did a soap opera series on the lines of Upstairs Downstairs called The Bretts about a theatrical family. It had without doubt the greatest selection of DB waistcoats I've ever seen been being worn with suits, sportcoats, blazers (which were all excellent too).....for those wanting a DB fix it can be found on Netflix I believe.
It's interesting that after everything that's happened, there's still a feeling that banker types are people to emulate. I would say that clothes don't make the man, but I have a feeling that the people who read your blog won't entirely buy that. ......All people in the financial industry are not evil.....and actually DB vests have long been considered rather flash and un-bankerish
What's perhaps most interesting is how the big investment banks have gone.... get ready.... business casual in an effort to land the math geeks that develop their algorithms. You'd be out of place in many a white shoe bank these days with anything more than Dockers khaki pants and a golf shirt!
Brooks Brothers had a great tweed suit (SB with a peak lapel) that came with a DB vest. Not purchasing it was one of the things I regret most sartorially speaking.
I recently rectified by purchasing a medium gray suit with the same features though - DB vests are a great look!

....I'm not sure I agree...obviously they're never going to surpass jeans but I've seen several over the past few months after never setting eyes on one since the sixties outside of weddings....a modest revival doesn't seem impossible since peaked lapel SB jackets have made a big comeback.
Reiss in the UK are currently making an off the peg suit with a double-breasted waistcoat. To be honest, the pictures make it look a lot better than it is in real life, it doesn't look like a £450 suit, more like a £250 one with a £200 label premium.
