The reception given to the photo of Alan Flusser here the other day made me hesitant to share my Manhattan souvenir, a pair of Belgian Shoes Mr. Casual in fuzzy leopard. Flusser wrote about them in, I believe, the first Style and the Man and I have wanted a pair ever since (they complement, if that is the word, pajamas of any color). The problem was that whenever I inquired they were out of stock and had a six month backlog.
I stopped in the Belgian Shoes store on east 55th the other day and, lo and behold, there was inventory on hand. Blame the Great Recession. Or Mr. Flusser. He may be inured to it by now.

Blame the Recession

While leopard anything may not be my personal choice, they’re slippers. Worn with pajamas. A sense of whimsy can be welcome. (Only forgo any thought of mules. ;-)
Hey, in the privacy of your own home, for your own pleasure--why not?
We know you wouldn't be caught dead in them on the street, so enjoy them! They look great.
Will,
Leopard print around the home can be fun in its own right.
Since we're on the subject of shoes, I was hoping you could provide some wisdom - I was caught outside in a flood-like rainfall and I'm afraid I may have ruined a pair of leather loafers. Would you have any insight in the best way to mend a pair with water damage on both the inside and out of leather shoes?
Many thanks.
Slippers with heels, as you have chosen, are the best choice for a gentleman. If somebody gripes about the pattern, respond with a grunt of indifference, borrowing a wonderful Japanese notion. As for me, my Draper of Glastonbury will do till they wear out.
You are my new hero Will! Good on you.
ADG
Ps...Now wear them out of the house.
Do they make Ocelot slippers?
Uh oh--ADG likes them. Well, as long as you wear them the way he wouldn't, you're safe.
Now that's what I'm talking about!
It's little items like these that separate the real clothing enthusiast from the vaguely well-dressed man. Great slippers...
Rats. Was just in the city today and would have made the effort if I had known there was elusive stock. Will just have to await my fuzzy leopards arrival by post. Sure to arrive mid July, natch...XXOO
