The Chestnut Shoes of Summer

The lighter colors of summer clothing need lighter colored shoes in tan, white or chestnut. In the photo, chestnut Edward Green oxfords complement a blue-gray suit.

Worn with a tan chambray shirt, blue and ivory checked necktie by Michael Drake, and a Simonnot-Godard linen and cotton handkerchief with an orange edge.

A point of order, Will: while all is very a nice, this may be an opportunity to avoid a confusion of terms. I’ve long noted with annoyance that the American clothing industry most often refers to a very dark, almost blackish-brown as chestnut, whereas British firms use it to describe a much lighter color such as that of your handsome shoes which in the U.S. might almost be termed antique tan.

Great Suit and great shoes, but the brown shoes with that suit are altogether a bit questionable, especially as they are the only item of that colour and look like "stuck on" in a haphazard way quite atypical of your usually meticulous dressing habits. Another part taking up the colour of your lovely shoes, e.g. the shirt, tie and pocket square, would be better and would make the rather monochrome suit a tad livelier; your post of 31 December 2008 demonstrates that nicely.

Otherwise a great outfit for a summer day.

You may need to let your inner Neapolitan come out more Richard. :-) Everything does not need to match, though in this case the tan of the shirt complements the shoes.

This works very well indeed. To my eyes one of your most successful ensembles.
