I really like this necktie with this jacket. The combination of purple and brown is one of my favorites.
Purple, red and green block stripe necktie worn with a gray chambray shirt and a brown cotton suit. Below the waist, lightweight black bluchers.

As much as I respect your taste, I don't find these flattering colors.
How could you tell from that photo?
Do you have a better photo? I'm with MCCVI. Maybe it's the brown of the suit. It's not so much rich as it's flat.
I do like the colour combination, it looks very refreshing, but somehow I'm never too keen on this particular way of folding the square. I find it always looks a bit too much like a decoration... I know it's a classic, but there is something too costumey about it to my eye, even if done very discretely, like in the photo. I don't know..
Tough crowd, as usual.
The jacket is quite a rich brown. But when that color was obvious the shirt was not visibly gray. Blame the Bay area's cloudy skies.
A4, that square was not folded. It was stuffed.
Nice job Will. I hadn't thought about purple and brown until you mentioned it here.
I like it too, Will. This works really well. The brown is amazing; very "rich" as you say. And the tie adds a flash of colour. The purple is nice, but what really makes me smile is the pairing of the red/green in the tie with the brown suit. I'm trying to imagine what brown shoes would look like here versus your black bluchers....
Leave the suit - take the cannoli.
Love it. I need to find a similar tie.
Brian,
Thanks for the plug. :-)

My only reservation about the tie is not the colour, but the stripes. I have ingrained deep into my consciousness having been told at an early age that one should only wear a striped tie if it is the tie of a club or organisation you are a member of - I think this is an English public (ie private in American parlance) school thing about not wanting to be seen "passing one'self off" as a member of something one is not. As a consequence, I only own striped ties for clubs I belong to. It is probably a ridiculous attitude, but is one I find I can't shake!
Brown is easily easily Mr Bean
Will,
A great look - I think the tie takes a calm suit and gives it a dash of energy and elegance - perfect as the weather warms up.
I, too, am a fan of brown and purple. It works because brown is essentially a muddy yellow, and yellow and purple are complementary colors. However, brown and purple don't have the same high contrast as purple and yellow, nor the sports team connotations, and so is a much more refined combination.
I am actually a fairly recent convert to striped ties, but now find I, too, have certain notions about them. I think they're better for the day than for the evening, and better for work than for weekends. Even so, I do wear striped ties in my personal time, but only non-regimental ones. For example, my beloved Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders ties are strictly for work.
In any case, it's a great tie and a smashing outfit (though I like LBT's idea of brown shoes instead of black). Will, would you consider a blue or a yellow shirt instead?
The suit looks good with a blue shirt. The gray one was the first time I'd deviated from it in fact.
Same with brown shoes. The black was an experiment, and a good one.
It's a pity brown can be seen as trying to copy Mr. Bean. It flatters so many men. I wouldn't wear it for an important money meeting, but it can be a great office suit in the summer.
A subtle glen check pattern in brown can be paired with bordeaux shoes. The red tones in the shoes really liven the brown suit, I think.
Will, I remember you having a few pairs of shoes in bordeaux, burgundy, or oxblood...if black or brown doesn't satisfy.
