The process of figuring out how to wear new clothes can be as simple as the choice of a necktie but sometimes it is just the opposite. Besides being a bit too small somehow, the coat in question does not get along with darker trousers, and in combination with cream trousers seems to disdain dark shoes. That in turn creates a small dilemma as it has a silken gleam that is intended for evening. The thought process continues.
Tan slipons, cream linen trousers, a white cotton shirt, white linen pocket square, mid-blue silk bow tie and the aforementioned difficult to classify blue and white odd jacket.

I am not sure what you had in mind when you had that jacket made but I think you are pairing it with the right combination. The lapels look a bit wide but that might be because it is a light color. I think you could easily wear that coat with a pair of navy linen slacks or some navy fresco wool slacks.
I have a very similar jacket that I wear with cream trou, but I like to pair it with white bucks. Then again I can get away with that in Charleston....
My immediate reaction to the photo, even before reading your comments, was that this combination looked great. FWIW.
Overall it looks very good Will except for the shoes......so what about the Spectators?.....or those tan and cream dual tone slip ons?
Great jacket.
I would suggest like grey fresco trousers with a light tn suede loafer. A pink fil-a-fil shirt and a textured tie with some white/ecru in the ground.

I too think it a great combination. But maybe the shoes are a little too formally dark. Also the shoulders of the jacket are not generous and the buttons too high, which makes it look as though you've outgrown it!
Chocolate/espresso brown trousers would look great with that jacket.
Why do you worry? Stop! This is a brilliant combo. I wish I had a sport coat such as yours.
While I agree that there might be of excess shine here, you could just reserve it for trips to Asia - you'd be quite the figure of envy here. But I cannot see what's wrong with the size, and the ensemble, on the whole, is, as others have already said, brilliant. Different perhaps but quite good.
Will, Im not sure why anyone wouldnt agree that this is a great combination. Sometimes I feel that we sometimes try too hard to prove our satorial prowess and totally overthink the process to our own fault. Are there other acceptable options to achieve an equally successful look? ...Absolutely, but not necessarily at the expense of this one. SMASHING!!
I like it. Lighter colored shoes, maybe even spectators, might be nice, too.
More than the outfit, I think you're still coming to terms with this jacket and its unaccustomed fit. Perhaps you need to knock the new out of it, à la Fred Astaire.
I have an equally problematic coat. The fit of yours however, seems fine.
New to your blog...love it.
I'm going to dress my husband up in something similar next week.
