I had put my brown cotton suit aside to await fall but since I need to visit my alterations tailor tomorrow I am wearing it into town so I can have the brace buttons moved. They need to be an inch closer to the center of the trousers so the braces will hang straight. For an ensemble I am shamelessly copying today's illustration: brown and white spectator shoes, white shirt, white linen pocket square, and a black knit necktie.

Will, I've always thought it was something of sartorial faux pas to wear a white shirt with a brown suit or with a brown jacket or brown/beige-ish pants (eg. at its most simple never wear a white shirt with Chinos). Is this true or had there used be something of a convention about this because I feel sure I've read it somewhere. There's also the fact that blue or pink are such better alternatives. I know odd combos can work well sometimes, I always wear black semi brogue captoes with my choc brown chalk stripe flannel suit but but would never choose a white shirt. Maybe I am a dinosaur.
A white shirt looks good with a sun tan (for some men, that is the only time) and a tan or a brown jacket. The English were wearing them in Italy eighty years ago - hardly the era of dinosaurs but adequate precedent.
