Freshly Resurrected

George Glasgow of bespoke shoemaker G.J. Cleverley & Co has said more than once that there are no new shoe styles, merely newly recycled ones. By that standard there are half a dozen freshly resurrected reasons to visit the Cleverley trunk show while it is in the United States this season.

From the left, a Dainite soled country blucher, a more refined blucher with a Norwegian style apron, a black slipon with a crocdile apron, a wholecut elastic sided slipon, a kielty slipon and my current inamorata, a butterfly slipon. The kielty shoe may become a model in the company's Anthony Cleverley line of not-quite-bespoke shoes on standard lasts.

The elastic sided wholecut is the quintessential air travel shoe design. More formal than a conventional slipon because it is higher sided, the elastic inserts help it slide on and off quickly in airport security.

The company is visiting cities in the United States through the end of October. Details are on the web site.

Those Cleverley slip-ons are to die for. Have two (2) in preparation, considering a third. Beautiful cut.

The elastic sided whole-cut is my kind of shoe. Is it bespoke, AC or standard range?

I just saw the elastic-sided wholecut in the pic. Beautiful shoe. But I think I'm holding out for the new Churchill, which goes against all my trad instincts but is such an intriguing, unique design.
