The Uniform
Some men thrive on variety in their dress. Others are content to wear the basics over and over and look good doing it.
Style icon Diego della Valle of Tod's regular uniform consists of a pin-striped Caraceni suit, solid colored shirt and classic necktie. Out of sight in the photo will be a white linen handkerchief in his breast pocket and a pair of his company's shoes on his feet (can't blame him for that but they are not up to the level of the rest of his wardrobe).

He'd look better if his collar weren't too big.
But I do like the overall look.
Mr. della Valle and your Nov 2008 post featuring him as "less is more" have served as my personal anchor as I begin to build a business wardrobe. As a young man aspiring to bigger things, I was so confused with designer this and that... until that Nov 2008 ASW post.
Thank you for pointing out that a uniform, with subtle variation, is a classic manner of dress. My 5 gray suits and a few odd jackets wardrobe will forever be indebted.
I guess I can maybe (?) see how one can be a style icon while working a very narrow range of clothing options. Certainly one be well-dressed, at any rate.
But the Tod's website--wow. The site itself, and the featured products, are some of the most gimmicky, trendy, wannabee-upscale crap I've seen in a long while.
Interesting that his tie is a Glen (or Prince of Wales, with my older eyes I can't tell which) check with a striped suit. To my eye that usually doesn't look quite right. But his, perhaps because there does not appear to be much if any color in the tie pattern, seems okay. Would you do that Will?
