A Pochette for Early Spring

Pocket squares with complex patterns, like Rubinacci's design in the photo, are not only beautiful to look at but can be arranged so that the visible portion of the silk in a breast pocket complements a wider variety of clothing than one might expect.

It was still frigid in New York the last time I looked but San Francisco and Naples have been enjoying an early spring, with sunshine encouraging lighter colors. In the photo, a green oxford necktie is paired with a light blue royal oxford cloth shirt, my mid-weight tan glen check and the Capodimonte square whose azure, gold, green and white tells of spring.

A mispelling... "Capodimonte", after the homonimous Palace atop Naples. Nice post, awfully nice silk, great combination. Sorry to bother you.

Fantastic picture on the square. The 18th century is one of the golden ages of mens clothes. And yes I spent the morning clearing snow on the CT shore wearing cords and a blue Guernsey.

Ladies, be careful! Your well-dressed man may just raid your collection of scarves in order to add to his pocket square collection....

Which is meant as a compliment. When I see something as ornate as this square, I assume it's for women. Obviously, I am mistaken. I love how this pocket square is a hidden-in-plain-sight bit of showiness, and I plan to emulate you.

Incidentally, I have a women's scarf that I use as an ascot, and both the fedora and the trilby began life as women's hats, so I think we can raid a woman's side of the closet with success--on a very limited scale, of course.

As I recall, Rubinacci pochette are under 12". Will, I thought your silks are 15" minimum.

The Rubinaccis are at least 15" or I couldn't recommend them.

http://www.marianorubinacci.net/eshop/product.php?id=203&lang=1&linea=1 30 cm = 11.81 inches, no? Perhaps they are marketing two different sizes? Strange.

I just measured two more and they are each 16" on a side.

A beautiful and elegant silk, and I drawn to the seductive color of the tie as well, can you provide additional details?

Will, I am new to pocket squares, as you will see on my blog, http://totheopera.com
The otherday I put on a suit and placed a pocket square in the pocket but did not wear a tie. A friend of mine said that you should always wear a tie if you wear a pocket square. What do you think?

I think that if you are tieless in the first place there are no rules that you should be following. Do as your taste tells you.
