The Change of Pace Necktie

A man should not wear neckties in shades of blue, gray or red all the time. Every wardrobe should have at least a couple change of pace ties with less commonly seen grounds in secondary colors like the bottle green one in the photo. Both bottle green and purple are particularly nice next to brown or tan jackets, orange works well with blue and and pink complements gray.

Speaking of the photo, a lined threefold necktie from E&G Cappelli is worn with a vintage cashmere pocket square, a butcher blue on white striped shirt and a herringbone patterned Shetland jacket with a blue overstripe. Below the waist, dark gray flannel trousers and burgundy monkstraps.

Will. Great illustration of wearing something out of the norm that doe snot scream in your face. You should post a pic of the whole ensemble as a secondary photo... or if you had this on tmblr, you could have a selection of photos highlighting different pieces of the ensemble. Jamaican

Very nice, as always.

I've already picked out tomorrow's clothes, and I'll be wearing a lavender shirt with a dark brown tweed jacket--one of your suggested colors combinations. It'll go with a brown & blue wool plaid necktie with some unexpected highlights in it (pink, yellow, and green). Gray trousers and brown suede shoes complete the ensemble.

This before I saw today's post. Are you sending out mind control waves? ;-)

Great combo as usual Will. I've personally rediscovered the bar tie of late. I've had them in the drawer for years of course but I happened across a few pics of Fred Astaire and noticed how frequently he used them and it motivated me.

I just don't like striped ties. I wore striped ties in 3rd through 6th form. Now, I own maybe 150 ties but for school I like 'theme' ties. When I teach WWII, I wear ties with tanks, planes ships etc. Once, while teaching the Civil War, I wore a tie with a battle scene and a kid commented, 'Mr. C. there is a two page spread in our book with the scene on your tie'!
