Man in Style, Installment VIII

Brown suede cap toed shoes became all the rage for sport and country wear in the 1930s after the Prince of Wales wore them on his tour of America, and André Churchwell uses their relative informality to contrast with his peak lapelled suit and shawl lapelled double breasted vest. The striped shirt with white collar and cuffs, dotted necktie, small red carnation and brown fedora complete the look.

The color and construction of his suit is exquisite. Nothing like a blue that looks like blue.

Not very keen on the shirt.

Why the white collar (and presumable white cuffs)?

I, too, am a fan of the blue of this blue suit. It's a very nice shade. A lighter blue like this works much better with brown shoes than most shades of navy do.

As for brown suede shoes, Fred Astaire favored them too, and he often wore them with suits. I wonder if he didn't also have an effect on their popularity.
