Grooming: How to Wash Your Face

A man's face should be washed in the morning and again at night to remove the dirt that causes blemishes. Use warm water, not hot, and wash with the hands - brushes and wash cloths irritate the skin and strip it of its natural oils. Apply a cleaning product that is meant for the face (ordinary soaps are too harsh) using a circular motion. Rinse with more warm water and then blot dry with a towel.

New on the ASW store this week is Dermagenics' Purifying Smart Cleanser ($35), a soap and sulfates-free hypoallergenic cleanser. Used instead of facial soap it will soften and smooth wrinkles, dissipate under-eye puffiness and visibly improve skin tone.

The Dermagenics line will be joined by several more best in class grooming lines in July, including wet shaving products and fragrances.

And don't forget 'Aloe'(aloe vera). If you live 'up north' or in a cold climate, just buy a plant and cultivate it.(Don't waste time with bottled product). After you shave, cut two inches off a leaf, cut off the spines and slit it open. Now slather it all over your face. It dries in a few minutes and is not greasy or oily. Your face will thank you.

Why does this product emphasize being soap free? Why is soap a problem?

Hi Sean,

Jason here from Dermagenics. Our cleanser was formulated without soap or sulfates in order to clean the face without drying or irritating the skin. The idea is to remove impurities (dirt, sweat, etc) without stripping the skin of all its natural oils, or disrupting the pH balance.

Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any more questions or feedback.

Thanks,

Jason
