Suits and Socks and a Sole Split
I was rubbing the toe of my Gaziano & Girlings with a suede eraser the other day when I noticed that the sole was splitting again. I had always assumed that G&G sources their soles from the same place as the other Northampton makers but this splitting is a phenomenon that I have never encountered with any other make of shoe. I have had it on at least half a dozen pairs, which has been one of the reasons I am replacing my machine made G&Gs (the bespoke are fine) with Cleverleys and Fosters over time.
Gaziano & Girling elastic sided suede slipon shoes worn with a pair of Bresciani dress hose with a contrasting vertical rib and a tan glen check suit. Above the waist, an ecru shirt, a blue on white houndstooth patterned cotton bow tie and a blue and brown foulard print silk square.
And then it was back to vigorous rubbing with the suede eraser.

Will, while you are at it, can you clean a couple of my suede shoes?
As for the sole, send the shoes back and demand a full refund. Spend the refund on three pairs of Allen Edmond shoes.
Same thing happened on a pair of black G&G captoes I had - the sole began to split at the point where the waist intersects with the heel.
I have three pairs of MTO G&G and have never had this problem. Maybe you are just a bit hard on them Will. I would send them back as well. I know you have a good relationship with them.
As a recent follower of your blog, this may be ground previously covered: Would very much like your opinion re: six or so of the best shoemakers, bespoke or made to order. Also eight or ten lines ... best shoes (RTW) off the shelf, (assuming one does not require orthotics.) Do Italians or French do something better than the Brits, and vice versa? business shoes vs sporting shoes? Thanks.
The combination of colours deserves a compliment.
The subtle eggplant tone found in the socks creates such abeautiful bridge between the warm suede and the rakish glencheck trousers.
Cheers

The same thing happened to me a brand new pair of handgrade Crockett and Jones. However, and more terrifyingly, I have commissioned G&G to make a pair of of boots for me and its been the most amount of money I had ever spent on a pair of boots thus far in my life. Your post has left fear in my heart:-)
Hope that they listen to this issue and sort this out.
Is that a Lesser tropical? Looks like the one I have with that caramel, or whatever it is, overcheck.
If any of my G&Gs start doing that I'll be hoppin' mad.
Will, I'm very sorry to hear about this. My G&Gs have not experienced this issue.
Holy cat. I wore my G&G Warwick black captoes today. And I see they are now doing it--not at the toe, but on the left front sole.
