Time Makes the Best 3 Roll 2.5

Time makes the best 3 roll 2.5 lapel roll in my experience. When a three button jacket arrives as a 3 roll top, the button point is too high for my taste. Fortuntely, after some time the lapels inevitably begin rolling to a point closer to mid-way between the top button and the center. That is of course where a 3 roll 2.5 ought to close and never does when I ask for it to be made that way.

The tropical navy pin dot suit is from John G. Hardy's defunct Rangoon bunch that was one of the best things that firm produced in my lifetime. It is worn with a Drake's necktie from last year, a Simonnot Godard tattersall pocket square and a peach shirt from that same maker's voile.

Very nice ensemble Will. Always love changing up a navy suit with a more casual Shirt and tie. It is still summer out here, we mind as well enjoy it.

Just to clarify for me, please, the shirt was bespoke out of voile fabric from Simonnot Godard? They didn't make the shirt because they don't make shirts? I really dislike pink but that peach is a wonderful shirt color.

That's right Sarj.

I had 2 suits in a beautiful, beautiful blue Rangoon. I travel a lot in India, China, and MENA, and they were my stand-by traveling suits. A&S says Minnis has something similar; but having a look it doesn't seem to have the same combination of durability, matte-ness, and breathe-ability.

Great rig!

I think the top buttun CAN be a little high, so this effect is welcome, as you say. Isn't this a function of the cloth and the interlings? Seems more likely to happen on a softly constructed jacket of soft or light cloth than a stiff, heavy garment favored by some of the SR houses. A friend of mine has some elderly three-button Huntsman outfits and they never budge.

Your jacket shows that it has a few seasons on it and has become an old friend. Far more attractive than something that looks new.

I think you're right Will, and this is puzzling because according to the experts the padding of the lapel is supposed to completely control how the lapel rolls.

And yet what you observe is precisely what is happening to both of my 3-button suits.

Your shirt/tie look great against the colour of your coat.

That Drake's tie is one of the finest I have ever owned, in both pattern and workmanship, and that involves a LOT of ties over the years. Unfortunately, the camera can't quite capture it. Enough of the pocket square shows up in the tie to give the combination credibility and that's true of most of the squares in my collection.

The beautiful suit is a perfect "black shoe", fit for most solemn occasions. Those bright accessories do lighten it up a bit.
