Before the Flood
The first cashmere tie of the season appeared in a travel outfit the other day, accompanied by an ancient madder pocket square, an end on end shirt and my Breanish tweed jacket that comes out a couple times each spring and fall. In typical Bay area fashion it was a perfect weight for the coast and the City but far too warm for the countryside in between.
All this inland heat is re-shaping my wardrobe. After years of wearing what ready to wear makers consider impossibly heavy cloth year-round, I think only of lighter stuff these days. Unfortunately, the lead times built into my clothing acquisitions means little is coming out of the pipeline. It is a situation reminiscent of Winston Churchill's description of the armaments manufacturing cycle: "The first year nothing, the second year a trickle and the third year a flood." Next year there will be a flood, if we can only get there from here.

Why not the the sheen of a silk pocket square to counterbalance the matte of the tie?
Madder is a treatment for silk, and the square seems to me to have enough sheen.
Very nice ensemble Will. The Jacket looks just like the one that I am waiting for. Hope that the pipeline starts flowing soon!
Will, while I do not wear cashmere ties much, I did take seasonal inspiration from you, and purchased my first felt hat today, in large part due to your influence and the impending New York Weather. It is a dark gray fedora, and as I look at this beautiful hat, there are 2 things on my mind: the incredible influence you have had over me, and the fact that I just had to much scotch.
Will,
What's a man to do who lives in arguably the hottest place (when one accounts for actual temperature and humidity) in North America: south Louisiana?
As a trial attorney, I have no choice - I have to dress conservatively while in court. And as I am not in New Orleans (don't mean to knock New Orleans), I can't pull off seer-sucker in my area (an urban city just about in the middle of the state along the I-10 corridor).
Regards,
Sam
Sam, wear suits of eight ounce fresco or Finmeresco cloth with shirts in high twist cloth. And stay by the air conditioner.
