When cooler temperatures and scattered showers arrive but a raincoat would be overkill, the combination of a tweed cap or beaver felt hat and a tweed jacket will keep a body dry. Tightly woven tweed is so water resistant that a man can substitute a tweed topcoat for a raincoat in anything short of a torrential downpour.
In the photo, a beaver felt fedora is paired with a gun club jacket, twill shirt, cashmere necktie, silk square, flannel trousers and suede ankle boots. I would have added gloves and a scarf had conditions warranted.
Wear tweed when it sprinkles.

I've taken to a similar outfit for the upper Midwest shoulder season when it is cool enough for a scarf but not cold and snowy enough for an overcoat. I stay warm and honor the original use for winter woolens.
Don't underestimate the protection from the elements provided by Tweed!
Aaah yes - nothing more comforting than settling into the autumn tweed. Some of mine belonged to my late Father; still going strong and as you say, keeps out the shower and the chill. It has the essence of a fine and mellow Malt.
You were expecting rain yet wore suede shoes nonetheless? Brave man ....
Oh, yeah! That's a great look you have in today's photo. I wore my Harris tweed with corduroys, wingtips, and Pendleton tie this morning, but I didn't cut quite as stylish a figure as you do here. That's a wonderful jacket.

Very nice outfit. It looks well fit but I'm wondering if the length of the coat is intentially longer? It also seems a little more structured than what Thomas Mahon would create, or maybe it's the fabric itself? I'm curious who you use for country suits and odd jackets such as this?

OK,I'm gonna go with a turtleneck instead of a tie. Tweed and a turtleneck a la Steve McQueen; just can't beat it oh and boots; cowboy boots. Did you know that 'Redwing' made a suede steel toed boot with a special shock-proof sole? FL is still too hot for a hat and besides my head is just too dang big. A hat just makes it look bigger.
