Indulgent Grooming
Of all of the aspects of a man's grooming there is only one that offers the potential for a significant upgrade in terms of the pleasure produced by the process itself, and that is wet shaving done right. The combination of warm water, soft brush, clean shave and wonderful fresh facial sensation post-shave is a delight every morning.
My own preferences for wet shaving include one of Simpson's Chubby shaving brushes, one of my Best Shaving Scuttles (that is the new ivory color in the photo) for building warm lather and D. R. Harris' Arlington Shaving Cream Pre-Shave Lotion and After Shave Milk. But there is no need to take my word for it - see for yourself.

I would supplement the cartridge razor for a straight razor, but otherwise.....

Straight razor? Only if I'd spent forty hours scraping the lather off a balloon first. I tried one . . . once! As far as I'm concerned, it's a professional's tool and I'm no professional!
I second the D. R. Harris recommendation with Almond and Arlington my favourites product lines for shaving and the shower.
How does it compare with The Art of Shaving products I'm currently using?
Many people consider Harris and Simpson (brushes) to be among the very best in the world. I am not aware that AOS products are in that group.
I also believe the brushes are amazing. Any comparison to the creams and oils?
AOS products are way over-priced, in my opinion. Also, I completely agree to ditch the cartridge razor for a straight razor or at least a double-edged safety razor. Either will be significantly less expensive over the long run and provide a superior shave. Wet-shaving with a cartridge razor is like wearing hand-made shoes, a bespoke shirt, a fine 7-fold tie, and polyester suit seperates from Macy's.
