What A Difference A Shoe Makes

André Churchwell wears a nicely accessorized linen suit that becomes dandy's garb when worn with brown and white spectator shoes.

Change out the specs for a pair of chestnut oxfords and ordinary mortals could wear the ensemble without drawing anything other than appreciative glances.

Wow! The sartorial panache of the Churchwells never ceases to awe and amaze me.

Here's the problem I have with Spectators worn with a suit:

Too flashy. They are a distraction, and take the eye away from what should always be focus of attention: A person's face. (Why am I repeatedly glancing at YOUR FEET?!)

If one's finger obscures shoes in photo, mentally replacing them with chestnut oxfords, the eye immediately returns to face and upper torso.

High contrast Specs also recall shades of mobsters and tango dancers. There is such a thing as looking too 'sharp.'

Worn with blazer and cream flannels, it's a different story.

Otherwise: Everything Mr. Churchwell is wearing is absolute perfection from ankle up! (And no one can wear a daytime boutonniere better than he.)

While I might concede that Mr. Churchwell's choices are rarely understated, they are far more CLASSIC than "period costume."

Classics are never "out of style" -- and rarely "in style" because they do not follow fashion.

Speaking of "period costume:" In a few years we will be laughing at the dated, ridiculously shrunken, tight, high-water PeeWee Herman suits of today. Just as we ridicule oversize shoulder of the 1980s.

Revisiting 1960s Mad Men... Now THAT's a "period costume."

This is right,i agree.
But i I was referring to some elements and proportions to Dr. Churchwell clothes.
For exemple the trousers, absolutly late 30s-40s in cut, breadth, length, pleats depht.
For exemple to the remarkable drape of the coats.
Mr Will wear classic, but his clothes are more "timeless" in proportions and cut.
