Although I didn't buy a pair today, they looked quite nice. A Google search turned up some sedate offerings of theirs here:http://www.hartfordyork.com/category/carolina-artisansAlanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09795945247297789757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4593388140454867428.post-51175924814545547962007-10-24T08:11:00.000-07:002007-10-24T08:11:00.000-07:00Nicholas - that's an interesting comment - As I am...Nicholas - that's an interesting comment - As I am not funny at all - I should keep my Paul Smith socks in the drawar...they are wildly outlandish...Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03961930732125748800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4593388140454867428.post-62377593067868700072007-10-24T06:13:00.000-07:002007-10-24T06:13:00.000-07:00A friend took a vacation to Milan this past spring...A friend took a vacation to Milan this past spring and brought me a pair of Gallo socks to thank me for collecting her mail. They're evidently from one of Gallo's lower lines of socks, but they're still very good -- they stay up like champs. They're probably not appropriate for suits, though: they're mauve cotton with huge orange cabbage flowers embroidered in them. I've never understood the propensity of British retailers to offer dress socks that end mid-calf. As Hardy Amies was telling them fifty years ago, they never stay up.I like dotted socks for wear with suits but the rugby and university stripes I've seen are meant for sports clothes. For me, that seems to be the biggest obstacle. There are many interesting socks available at Barney's (I know, I know), but none of them go over the calf. Also, I remember reading somewhere that your socks should never be funnier then you are. Hope you aren't setting the bar too high for the rest of us!Nicholashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16595844149664673863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4593388140454867428.post-77672096322704688022007-10-23T11:37:00.000-07:002007-10-23T11:37:00.000-07:00Just bought some socks at Paul Smith on 5th and 16...Just bought some socks at Paul Smith on 5th and 16th. I occasionally wear pink, red, yellow, and lime green socks, but I will now consider plaids, stripes, and checks. Pakeman Catto & Carter has some colourful socks they call 'hoop' and 'barking mad' socks.
