Woven is how the pattern is made on squares that can be reflective or matte. Gummed silk is a type of silk that has no shine.

Two questions.

1. What are matte fabrics? In "Pocket Squares Are Important" you mentioned that that matte silk should contrast with shinier silk.

2. In "The Day's Necktie," you mentioned gummed silk neckties. Are matte, gummed, and woven silk neckties the same or do they fall under a more general category more textured fabrics that can be worn in contrast to shinier silks,

I think I'm more bothered about the fact that his bottom button is done alone, rather than the top. It looks neat in the drawing, but I'm fairly certain in real life it would cause an unsightly roll/bunch (the lapel would stick out like there was something poking it out, no?)

I see that the man in the illustration is wearing a waistcoat w/ a DB jacket. I always thought that was a taboo. Any insight?
